Distinguished by its environmentally friendly operations, Agrilectric Power Partners is a biomass power facility that produces 12 megawatts of electricity. Using rice hulls as fuel, Agrilectric has been producing power in Lake Charles, Louisiana since 1984. What began has a mechanism to reduce the build-up of rice hulls from Farmers Rice Mill has flourished to become a successful power producing operation. Agrilectric powers both Farmers Rice Mill and Agrilectric Research Company entirely, and sells excess power to a neighbouring utility company. This excess electricity is enough power to supply the yearly needs of approximately 6,000 homes.
Agrilectric Power Partners is a Green-E certified producer of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), generating approximately 87,000 RECs annually. RECs are tradable, non-tangible energy commodities that represent proof that 1 megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity was generated from an eligible renewable energy resource. The purchase of an REC is equivalent to purchasing a claim to the environmental attributes of renewable electricity generation without purchasing or consuming the clean electricity itself.
In order to qualify as a renewable energy resource, facilities must apply to the Green-E Energy Program, whose purpose is to ensure RECs are property verified and accounted for. In order to remain compliant under the Green-E Energy Program, participants are required to pass an annual Verification Process Audit.

Turning a waste product into usable energy is something we have been doing for nearly 30 years; well before the phrase “alternative energy” was a common household term. It is a long standing joke that Agrilectric Power Partners was “green” before being “green” was even a consideration for most companies. For more information, please visit www.Agrilectric.com.
